To access the internet, input your ID and password (your student number and email password, for further instruction please refer to the announcement issued on March 10, 2009 on the Education Support website) when prompted. Remember to log out when finished to prevent others from misusing your account.
    3. Open hours:
      1. Tamshui Campus: Monday to Friday 8:20-21:00
(Closed during maintenance hours, Saturday, Sunday, and national holidays; during mid-term and finals week, only Lab B201 is open from 8:20-21:00)
Lab E313 is open 24 hours

      2. Taipei Campus: Lab D108 opens from Monday to Friday 14:10-21:00 (Closed on Saturday, Sunday, national holidays, and finals week)
    4. Computer Hardware and Facilities
      1. Tamshui Campus: All seven computer labs are equipped with a total of 510 PCs and 57 laser printers for student use (refer to Appendix 1). Lab E313 is open for 24 hours, whereas B114, B130, B216, B217, and B218 are restricted to instructional use. Instructions on hardware and facility use are posted on each computer lab entrance in addition to the Guidelines for Computer Lab Use page on the Education Support website (http://www.ipcedu.tku.edu.tw/hardware.htm).
      2. Taipei Campus: Lab D108 is equipped with 17 PCs and 2 laser printers for student use. Labs D304 and D305 are restricted to instructional use. Instructions on hardware and facility use are posted on each computer lab entrance in addition to the Guidelines for Computer Lab Use page on the Education Support website.
    5. Software:
Software installed in the computer labs are all authorized campus programs licensed for non-commercial use and are managed by the Information Processing Center (refer to Appendix 2). departments may use distinct software which are licensed and supplied by the departments, whereas Education Support will assist in installment and maintenance. Installed software will vary in different labs; refer to each computer lab’s webpage in addition to the Guidelines for Computer Lab Use page on the Education Support website for more information (http://www.ipcedu.tku.edu.tw/software.htm).
    6. Guidelines for Computer Lab Use
      1. Student/staff ID is required upon entry.
      2. In accordance to TKU environmental policy ISO14001, students must adhere to the following rules:
(1)Turn on and off your PC before and after use to save energy and prevent the spread of viruses.
(2)Store data in electronic form whenever possible and refrain from excessive printing. Before printing, preview your file to avoid wasting paper and print double-sided. Place unusable waste paper in the recycling bins located in each lab.
(3)Place other recyclables (i.e. plastic bottles, aluminum cans, or glass bottles) in the recycling bins located outside the labs.
      3. In agreement with the Campus Copyright Protection Laws set in motion by the government, please refrain from installing illegal or unauthorized software on our PCs. Violators will be held responsible for their own actions.
      4. Do not smoke, eat, or drink inside the labs. Refrain from wearing slippers inside the labs to lessen the amount of airborne dust. Wet umbrellas should be left outside. Please take away all trash when you leave.
      5. Do not play online games, download illegal or unauthorized software or files, print files unrelated to school assignments, or take away extra pieces of paper. Violators will be asked to leave.
      6. Seating is arranged by work-study students according to immediate circumstances. Do not change seats at will. If your hardware is out of order, please inform a work-study student for assistance and a new seating arrangement.
      7. Using an ID to occupy a spot without the intention of using the computer is prohibited. If a seat is vacant for over 10 minutes, it will be given to the next person in line.
      8. If you wish to enter the lab to look for someone, please inform the work-study student on duty.
      9. Please make use of the computer lab reservation system as much as possible, either through the work-study student in B212 or online. The reservation will be forfeited 10 minutes past the reserved time.
      10. To prevent abuse of the reservation system, if an individual fails to show up for more than 3 reservations, they will be locked out by the reservation system for 2 weeks.
      11. To guarantee the privileges of the next user, please depart on time or your PC will be deliberately shut down.
      12. To ensure normal operation of all campus computer labs, any individual who intentionally destroys any lab equipment will be punished in accordance with school policy.
      13. For the equality of all individuals who wish to use the campus’ digital resources, each person is restricted to a 2-hour maximum time limit. If there is no one waiting in line for use, the time limit can then be extended. However, once there are people waiting in line, users will be asked to leave based on the amount of time they have been in the lab, starting with the longest first.
      14. Computer Lab Printers
(1)Printers are meant to be shared amongst many users and are only to be used to print files related to school assignments. If you are printing lecture notes, ask a class representative to take the file to the Printing Section of the Academic Affairs Office to save time and resources.
(2)Refrain from bringing your own blank paper for printing to computer labs so that each user’s equality is maintained. Everyone is entitled to print 10 pieces of paper, but if there is need for more, notify the work-study student on duty. If you need more than 50 pieces of paper, inform Education Support faculty, who will in turn contact the course teacher of the situation.
      15. All the computers in the labs will revert back to their original condition upon rebooting to prevent serious damage. Data stored on system hard disks will be restored upon restarting, whereas shared data are programmed to be wiped clean on the first reboot of the day.
